AlQa'dah 27, 1435, September 22, 2014, SPA -- The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia vowed today that it's time to seek a UN Security Council resolution to set a timetable to end the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories and achieve the independence of the State of Palestine along the 1967 parallel with Al-Quds as its capital. In a speech before the Human Rights Council today, Saudi Arabia's representative to the United Nations in Geneva Faisal Trad said that more than one month has passed since the convening of the 21st session which discussed the Israeli brutal aggression on the Palestinian territories in Gaza and the unprecedented violations of human rights there, but in vain. He deplored the European Union's decision to boycott discussion on the situation of human rights in the occupied Palestine under the 7th article, and instead calling to transfer the debate to the second and fourth articles, reflecting their continuous attempt to cover the violations of the Israeli occupation of human rights in Palestine and the double standard they are adopting when the matter deals with Israel. He said Saudi Arabia categorically rejects degrading and marginalizing Article Seven as the appropriate literal place to discuss the Israeli occupation until ending it, calling on all countries to shoulder their responsibilities to end the occupation and put an end to the policy of evading penalty and double standard. "Accordingly, we believe that it's time to move to the Security Council to issue a resolution to fix a time ceiling to end the Israeli occupation and achieve the independence of Palestine on the 1976 parallel with Al-Quds as its capital and support the demand of the State of Palestine submitted to the Swiss Government to invite the High Commissioners Contracting Parties of Geneva Convention to an extraordinary meeting aiming to take their responsibility to implement and apply the rules of the agreement on the occupied Palestinian territories including Al-Quds and provide the protection of the Palestinian people", Saudi Arabia's representative said. He concluded that Saudi Arabia will continue to consider the fair issue of the Palestinian people as Arab's and Muslims' core issue, noting that the total assistance provided for the Palestinians by Saudi Arabia since the commencing of the Israeli occupation has surmounted SR50 billion, the most recent was the $500 million for the rehabilitation of Gaza.
