International Islamic Relief Organization (IIRO) of Muslim World League (MWL) has dug 152 artesian and shallow wells in 27 Asian and African countries. The IIRO Secretary General Ihsan bin Saleh Tayeb said that the aim of digging these wells was to provide clean drinking water and irrigation for (110,924) people in many remote villages that lack the most basic necessities of modern life of paved roads, and electrical services. He further said that one of the shallow wells costs between 10,000 to 50,000 Saudi riyals, while the cost of an artesian well varies between 130,000 to 250,000 Saudi riyals. Tayeb pointed out that these wells have provided large amounts of clean drinking water for hundreds of thousands of Muslims who were drinking contaminated water brought many diseases such as Malaria and Schistosoma and Typhoid, noting that they have also turned barren land into green spaces currently producing many agricultural crops.
