Miami-based forecasters say the first hurricane of the eastern Pacific season has formed far off Mexico's coast. The National Hurricane Center says Amanda formed Saturday as a Category 1 hurricane and is strengthening rapidly. The storm is centered about 645 miles (1,035 kilometers) southwest of Manzanillo, Mexico, with sustained winds of 75 mph (120 kph), AP reported. The center says Amanda was moving northwest at 11 a.m. EDT Saturday at about 5 mph (7 kph). Forecasters say Amanda could become a major hurricane sometime Sunday but no coastal watches or warnings are in effect. The center said the storm poses no immediate threat to land. -- SPA 20:45 LOCAL TIME 17:45 GMT تغريد
