Iraqi authorities said gunmen killed seven soldiers during an attack at a security checkpoint near a northern city, AP reported. Police officials say attackers sprayed with bullets a group of troops manning a checkpoint early Sunday near the city of Mosul, 360 kilometers (225 miles) northwest of Baghdad. Medics confirmed the casualties.
