At least 22 people were killed when a speeding truck overturned on a highway in India's southern state of Karnataka on Saturday, a news report said, according to dpa. Twelve more were injured in the accident that took place near Belgaum city, the IANS news agency reported. The vehicle hit a kerb before it overturned, police official Chandra Gupta told IANS. The victims were farm workers who were travelling to harvest crops. News channels reported seven women and six children were among the dead. India has one of the highest number of traffic fatalities in the world. Government figures say about 120,000 people are killed in road accidents each year.
