At least 26 people from a wedding party were killed in a road accident in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, police said Wednesday. The accident took place Tuesday night when the overcrowded mini-bus collided head-on with a speeding truck in the district of Mainpuri. "Twenty-six people were killed in the accident while 13 injured were admitted to a hospital," police chief Chandrahaas Tiwari said by telephone. He said the victims were on their way to a wedding in the adjoining district of Etah, according to a report of DPA. India has one of the highest rates for traffic fatalities in the world. Government data shows approximately 120,000 people are killed in road accidents each year.
