AlHijjah 3, 1434, Oct 8, 2013, SPA -- Jordanian King Abdullah II on Tuesday held talks with Egyptian President Adli Mansour on ways to cement Jordanian-Egyptian ties in economic and other fields, and discussed regional and international issues. King Abdullah II and President Mansour underlined the strong, solid and deep-rooted pan-Arab and historical relations and a common desire to further enhance them in various fields to serve the interests of the two brotherly countries and people. The two leaders reviewed various aspects of cooperation between the two countries and the scope to bolster them in political, economic and other fields, emphasizing the importance of convening the Joint Jordanian-Egyptian Higher Committee's meeting as soon as possible. Such meetings, they noted, would help to foster bilateral cooperation, particularly in the field of energy, and address other economic and trade issues. Also on the agenda were efforts to bring about peace between the Palestinians and Israel by moving towards setting up an independent Palestinian state on the national Palestinian soil according to the two-state solution and the 2002 Arab Peace Initiative. The Syrian crisis also figured high in the talks, with the King's reiteration of Jordan's support to a comprehensive political solution to end the suffering of Syrians and safeguard the country's unity, noting Jordan's efforts to deal with a large number of Syrian refugees on its territory.
