AlQa'dah 21, 1433, Oct 7, 2012, SPA -- Jordanian King Abdullah II on Sunday met with European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso for talks on Jordanian-EU ties and developments in the Middle East, including Syria. King Abdullah II and Barroso said they agreed to advance ties "in order to meet common interests in light of achievements made regarding cooperation in the various fields," noting the opportunities available to build on relations. King Abdullah II reiterated the need for a political solution to the escalation in Syria to put an end to the bloodshed and protect the country's unity and the cohesion of its people. He also gave a briefing on Jordan's efforts to offer services to Syrian refugees on its territory, whose number had exceeded 200,000, despite poor resources, calling on the international community, namely the EU, to pursue and increase its support to Jordan. The meeting also tackled efforts to breathe new life into the Palestinian-Israeli peace process to arrive at a solution to the conflict that addresses all final status issues and leads to an independent Palestinian state living in peace alongside Israel.
