Unemployment in Germany posted a surprise increase in August, climbing by 7,000 to 2.943 million, the labour office said Thursday, according to DPA. Analysts had expected the monthly data to show that the seasonally adjusted numbers out of work fell by 5,000 this month after they declined by 7,000 in July. "Unemployment rose in August as a result of the summer holiday break," labour office chief Frank-Juergen Weise said. However, he said, labour market remained stable. In seasonally unadjusted terms, unemployment rose by 32,000 to 2.946 million this month.
