Germany's number of unemployed rose by 5,000 in November compared to the previous month to reach 2.929 million in seasonally adjusted terms, dpa cited labour office data released Thursday as showing. It is the seventh consecutive month that unemployment has risen in the country, as employers continued to trim their workforce in the face of the euro debt crisis. The figure was better than expected, however. Analysts had forecasted an increase of 16,000 after the number out of work rose 20,000 in October. In the politically important seasonally unadjusted terms, the numbers out of work fell by 2,000 to 2.751 million in November. "The labour market has responded to the loss of a robust dynamic in economic growth," said Federal Labour Office chief Frank-Juergen Weise. "The current data shows a predominantly a sideways movement."
