German unemployment rose slightly in February, as the economic crisis had a moderate effect on the job market, data released Thursday showed, according to dpa. The labour office said the numbers out of work, in seasonally adjusted terms, rose by 7,000 to 3.433 million in February. In seasonally unadjusted terms, unemployment rose by 26,000 to 3.643 million. The jobless figure now stands at 8.7 per cent, up 0.2 per cent on the same time last year. Labour office board member Heinrich Alt said the effects of the economic crisis were "moderate" in February. "Unemployment merely rose by the usual seasonal extent," Alt said.
