Dr. Nabeel Al-Arabi, Secretary General of the Arab League, disclosed that he has proposed, in a message circulated on August 22, 2013 to the UN Secretary General and Chairman and members of the Security Council, launching an humanitarian-like initiative on Syria based on an obliging resolution by the UN Security Council for all warring parties to ceasefire in all parts of Syria, and adopt an appropriate mechanism to supervise distributing humanitarian and medical assistance to pave the way for launching the political solution for the crisis as soon as possible. In an address at the extraordinary Arab League permanent-representatives-level meeting in Cairo today, Al-Arabi said, however, all sights are now directed to the heinous crime committed by the Syrian regime, using poisonous gases and chemicals against innocents and killing and injuring hundreds.
