Dr. Nabeel Al-Arabi, Secretary General of the Arab League (AL), confirmed today that the step taken so far in the UN-AL joint special envoy Kofi Annan's plan for Syria was no more than an administrative part to dispatch enough observers to get assured that no use of violence, no bloodshed and no killings taking place and pave the way for the political path of the plan. In press remarks here today, he said he discussed with the delegation of the Syrian National Council, led by Dr. Basmah Gadmani, the current situation in Syria and the importance of continuing the efforts for a sustained ceasefire and other issues regarding the dispatch of international observer mission as well as the political path that will come. He denied reports that the Syrian National Council has demanded Arab military intervention, noting that the Arab League did not discuss this matter. On a report quoting the spokeswoman of the Syrian National Council, which opposes the Syrian government, as announcing that the Arab League has recognized the council, Al-Arabi said his organization is not involved in the issue of recognition. That is each Arab country's business, he explained.
