The Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Professor Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, has condemned vigorously the death of the Palestinian prisoner martyr Arafat Jaradat in Israeli jails, qualifying his death as a heinous crime and a flagrant violation of the international humanitarian law and Geneva Conventions. In a press statement issued here yesterday, the Secretary General held the Israeli occupation fully responsible for the death of the Palestinian prisoner caused by the arbitrary measures and inhumane treatment of prisoners and denial of their fundamental rights. At the same time, he emphasized that the death of Prisoner Jaradat exposes the racist policies and systematic violations perpetrated by the Israeli occupation against Palestinian prisoners. The Secretary General reiterated his call for the internationalization of the cause of Palestinian prisoners and called upon the international community to shoulder its responsibilities in protecting Palestinian prisoners and bringing pressure to bear on Israel, the occupying power, to compel it to put an end to its continued violations against them and to release them immediately.
