The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and High Commissioner for Human Rights signed today a memorandum of understanding in the field of technical cooperation between the two sides. The MoU was signed by Dr. Bandar bin Mohammed Al-Aiban, President of the Human Rights Commission, and Navanethem Pillay, High Commissioner for Human Rights. In a press statement, Dr. Al-Aiban said that this MoU came within the framework of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud's efforts in the field of enhancing and protecting human rights. He added that the MoU included that the commission will implement programs and activities in collaboration with the commissioner in order to enhance the national capabilities and spread a culture of human rights in the Kingdom. It also included organizing training courses for employees in the relevant sectors related to the human rights and preparing guidebooks for this purpose in light of Islamic Shariah law. For her part, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights expressed thanks to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques for supporting the High Commissioner for Human Rights' activities, pointing out that the commissioner will establish Arabic website for the commissioner serving students and researchers interested in human rights issues.
