The son and namesake of Gil Manese, former Filipino community leader here, who died recently in the Philippines received a posthumous award from the umbrella organization of Filipino community groups last weekend. The award was received by Gil Manese Jr. from (KASAPI) Kapulungan ng Samahang Pilipino during the opening ceremony of the 28th season of the FBA basketball tournament held at the Saudi Hi-Tech Compound here. KASAPI chairman Vic Auila said the posthumous award is given to Gil Manese for his exemplary contribution to the welfare of Overseas Filipinos. Manese, a Filcom leader for almost three decades and one of the founding member of KASAPI, died of a heart attack on June 25 in his hometown in Pampanga. Manese Jr. thanked the Filipino community in Jeddah for its wishes and expressed his gratitude for the value given to his father by Filcom. Twenty-two teams from different companies from Jeddah, Shuaiba and Rabeigh are taking part in the event. Edgar Mendoza, president of the FBA, said this 28th season is dedicated to Manese who was the association's president for years.
