Badea Abu Al-Naja Saudi Gazette MAKKAH — The municipality has shut down a courtyard being used for preparing unlicensed food and distributing it to stores. Al-Umrah Municipality Chairman Luai Bin Jamal Ashour said around 3,000 kg of pastries, 20 large gas cylinders, 400 bags of incorrectly stored flour weighing a total of 20 ton were seized from the premises. The municipality inspectors also seized 10 freezers used to store food. The municipality is running an inspection campaign to ensure safe and healthy food is provided to the pilgrims and visitors to the city. The owner of the courtyard is being questioned on the illegal operation at his premise. Some receipts found in possession of the owner indicate that some of the food prepared in unhygienic conditions might have been sold to school cafeterias.
