Badea Abu Al-Naja Saudi Gazette MAKKAH — Municipal inspectors shut down a well-known restaurant in Makkah and seized 1.6 tons of rotten pickle from another. Luai Bin Jamal Ashour, chairman of Al-Umrah branch municipality, said inspection teams from his municipality busted a famous restaurant in Makkah after detecting several hygienic and environmental violations. He said large quantities of contaminated foodstuffs were seized and destroyed and the owner was summoned for questioning. Ashour said the municipality is determined to intensify the raids against eateries and shops to ensure the safety of food being served to the residents, pilgrims and visitors especially during this hot weather. The municipality also seized and destroyed about 1.6 tons of pickles from another restaurant after they started showing signs of contamination. Mohammed Barnawi, chairman of the municipality's department of foodstuffs, said the pickles were contained in 165 buckets, each of them weighing 10 kilograms. He said the restaurant owner was warned to strictly abide by the municipal rules and regulations and never to serve unhealthy food to the clients.
