Mohammad Rasheed Suyat JEDDAH — The JBL opened its 2015 second PEAK Sodas Sports & Shoe Arena Shop Basketball Tournament at the Khalidia basketball court here recently. The participating teams paraded in their resplendent uniforms during the opening ceremony which was presided by JBL President Mohammed Rasheed Suyat and JBL Tournament Director Donald Doloso. Baba Ahmad Peradilla of Jeddah Dawah Center started the ceremony with an inspiring Islamic invocation while Ali Lumanog of Mandoubiyah Islamic Propagation Office led the Oath of Sportsmanship. Jon Abano Jr. of PEAK Sodas Sports & Shoe Arena Shop was the main guest. The tournament committee extended its gratitude to Arthur Montiero for providing shoes, basketballs and 10 T-shirts which were raffled to the lucky spectators and participants. JBL also thanked Wil Escanan of Deepvision Advertising Company for giving precious giveaways to our ladies spectators. Mohammad Faris Diaz and Harun Sanchez made inspirational speeches. The awards for the Best Team in Uniform went to Ikea (Ahmad Harris Penaranda), Knights (Coach Glenn) and Urban Design Group (Ariel Acedera). The Best Mascot awards were won by Knights (Densel Dolloso and Keila Santiago), UDG and Gensoul (Eliezer Jehan Silvestre). In the opening game, defending champion Khalidia Tambayz, coached by Ronnie Carino, beat Leylati 103-61. The winner showed outside shooting power in the whole game as the losers had a tough time to contain the rival offense. Garcia scored 30 points for the winner and was adjudged PEAK Sodas Sports Best Player. Monico Hugo hit 24 points for the loser. In the 40 & Above division, Dessert Warriors of coach Nestor Capinpin defeated RJW Jufalli Wednesday Group 99-94. Both teams played well in the whole game as the scores kept changing up to the last seconds of the game. Hermogenes connected his three points to top score with 32 points for the winner and was adjudged as JBL Best Player. Jameel Khobre collected 22 points for the loser. Gensoul of coach Vin Harley Musngi defeated Urban Design Group 76-64. It was a ding-dong battle. Lacson led the winner with 27 points and was named PEAK Sodas Sports Best Player. Camartin made 27 points for the loser.
