RIYADH – Saudi Arabia on Wednesday jailed a citizen who was convicted of joining the Al-Nusra Front, a Syrian terrorist organization allied with the Al-Qaeda network. A special criminal court in Jeddah found the man guilty of traveling to Syria, fighting alongside the terrorist group, disobeying the country's ruler, as well as involvement in money laundering and cybercrimes. The man also received training in armed combat and use of weapons, including Kalashnikov rifles, the court said, adding that he had enticed several others to join the group. He was sentenced to six years in prison, apart from a travel ban for a similar period upon release. The court also confiscated his two mobile phones. Both the defendant and the prosecution challenged the sentence and have been give time to file appeals.
