RIYADH – The Special Criminal Court in Riyadh sentenced on Sunday two militants to prison for 16 and 7 years. They were also banned from traveling abroad after completing their jail terms. The ban was for periods similar to their sentences. The second defendant was also fined SR5,000, SPA said. The charges against the two militants were various and included joining Al-Qaeda, declaring their readiness to carry out any operation required of them, inciting so-called “Mujahideen” to travel immediately to the Kingdom to carry out terrorist operations, writing a poem glorifying Al-Qaeda leaders and commanders describing them as “Mujahideen”, promoting Al-Qaeda terrorist thought and recording films and videos for Al-Qaeda terrorist operations. They also adopted Takfiri ideology that violates the Holy Qur'an and Sunnah. They considered the government as that of apostates. They disobeyed the ruler by traveling to regions of conflicts in order to participate in the fighting there, among other charges. It was explained to them that they can appeal the verdicts within 30 days after receiving the verdict documents. Otherwise, their case would be referred to the Special Criminal Appeals Court to scrutinize the verdicts without any objection.
