Saudi Gazette report JEDDAH – Civil Defense personnel here rescued six workers trapped inside an apartment building that was on fire on Wednesday, the Saudi Press Agency reported. Lt. Col. Muhammad Othman Al-Qarni, Civil Defense spokesman in the Makkah region, said the fire broke out in a seven-story building in Nuzha District of north Jeddah. The fire started on the first floor, which was used by a local company as housing for its workers. While firefighters battled to bring the blaze under control, Civil Defense rescue teams evacuated all residents of the building as smoke started to spread quickly across the floors. Al-Qarni said Red Crescent paramedics treated the rescued workers for smoke inhalation. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fire, he said.
