This is in response to the article, “Company penalized for delaying salaries,” in Saudi Gazette (July 12). Why should the media hide the name of such a delinquent company? Let it earn bad name and be known to all. If actually it is a major contracting company as reported, what went wrong to it? No good contracting company would stop salary of its workers for several months knowing full well the consequences of it, without some serious reasons within it. By when will the workers be paid? What is now their future in this company? Is there something inherently wrong with contracting business per se? Mahesh Jha, Online response Why they have to stop all services The Ministry of Labor (MOL) has to make sure that the employees receive their salary on time. Stopping all the services to the delinquent company will not help employees in any way. For example in many cases, MOL stops the services and the company cannot renew their employees Iqama. This again hurts the employee through no fault of theirs. Now if and when there is police checks everywhere and if the police catch these people for having no or expired Iqamas, who will suffer? Again those poor employees. Hareesh, Online response Ministry has done a good job The Ministry of Labor has done a good job. Even my company delayed me 4 months salary. They have to check all companies have cleared pending salary or not. I am very happy with this article and the actions by the ministry. Ahmed, Online response Why not punish the owners? The ministry has stopped all services to the company for not paying salaries to employees. How does it help the employees? As a matter of fact, it will only create more problems for the employees like no Iqama renewals, no exit re-entry visas etc. The owners of the company should be arrested and put in jail. That's the solution. Azhar, Online response
