JEDDAH — A Yemeni resident sued a Saudi expeditor claiming SR300,000 in compensation for failing to obtain him Saudi citizenship. The Yemeni man's lawyer Khalid Al-Yafie said his client hired a Saudi woman as an expeditor and signed a contract worth SR300,000. “My client paid the full amount in two installments but the expeditor did not meet her end of the contract. The woman was supposed to follow up and facilitate the process of my client's Saudi citizenship application but she simply did not do anything. My client asked her to refund the money but she refused and avoided contact,” said Al-Yafie. He added his client had no other way of retrieving his right but to take to court. “The contract was signed in the presence of four witnesses and a judge had previously ruled that she pay him back SR300,000. The woman was given time to appeal the verdict but she did not file any. Instead, she went on social media and posted a video where she accused my client of exploitation and embezzlement, which ruined his reputation,” said Al-Yafie. He said the woman was unreachable and seemed to believe she was not going to face any consequences for her action. “She recorded the video with a group of her friends. They were all divorcees and widows and they were waiting for the Ministry of Housing to provide them with residence. An employee at the ministry who phoned them up asking for their IDs and other details he informed her that the ministry will not be able to process her papers until she pays the SR300,000 to the plaintiff in the case,” said Al-Yafie. He also said she fabricated some lies in her plea in the video and accused his client with embezzlement when she was the real embezzler.
