The Board of Grievances has ordered the Administrative Intelligence Department in Taif to pay SR135,000 to a Saudi in compensation for falsely implicating him and detaining him for nine months in a forgery case. The Department has filed an appeal against the verdict issued on Tuesday. The plaintiff was satisfied with the verdict which has now been referred to the Auditing Board in Riyadh for final adjudication. Meanwhile, the Auditing Board is also looking into another verdict of the Board of Grievances obliging Al-Leeth Police to pay a citizen SR7,800 in compensation – SR200 for each of 44 days the man was detained by the police over a fight case. Even as the police appealed the verdict, the plaintiff made it clear that he was not satisfied and sought more compensation. The Auditing Board is expected to decide on the case within the next three months. Verdicts issued by the Grievances Board are preliminary and need the approval of Riyadh's Auditing Board to be final and effective. The latter has recently approved a verdict ordering Jeddah Police to compensate a Saudi citizen with SR1,000 for detaining him without any legal basis. In another case, the Board of Grievances has fixed Jan. 28 to look into a lawsuit filed by a Saudi against Jeddah Traffic Police claiming that he was detained for 24 hours and fined SR300. He sought compensation for psychological and social damages.
