DAMMAM — A three-day camp for scouts and guides troops of Al Khozama International School, Dammam, was organized here to instill practical learning in order to produce a world class learning community. The camp was held to promote human excellence by providing variety of opportunities and life experiences. The event ended with a parent session where CGPA 10 winners of CBSE X grade examination 2014-2015 were also honored. The camp started on Tuesday and continued through the two following days. Apart from its broader objective, the camp was primarily intended to give training to its scouts and guides to achieve certificates of Pravesh, Pratam Sopan, Dvidheya and Tritheya and finally Rajyapuraskar of Bharat Scouts and Guides. Alongside the training, the troop which consists of different patrols were given practical classes in First Aid, use of the magnetic compass, different types of whistling, lashings, knots and the like. The scouts led by Flinn Nitto and the guides led by Sharon Shaju enjoyed fun games and other entertainment activities that were conducted during the respective camps. All the 35 guides and 14 scouts, who attended the final parent's session, were awarded Dwitiya Badges by the Chief Commissioner of Bharat Scouts and Guides, KSA Laek Ali, followed by power point presentations by Sakeer Hussain, secretary Bharat Scouts & Guides, Kerala, and Shameer, Badge Committee Vice Chairman, B S&C, KSA, on syllabi of different certificate courses and sea scouting respectively. In addition to Sakeer Hussain, the camp was spearheaded by Thulaseedharan, state training commissioner, Bharat Scouts and Guides, Kerala, and Gireesh Kumar, state organizing committee, Bharat Scouts and Guides, Kerala. Students Larissa and Shilpa Sabu were the comperes and Chaitanya and Avi Mehta delivered the vote of thanks. Peevees Group of Schools has taken a lead in scouting and guiding in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. They have also had their support from the representatives of Bharat Scouts and guides, KSA. The students had earlier attended various camps in Wayanad, Mannuthy & Palode in Kerala in the past three years. Last year around 60 students across the Peevees Group of Schools attended the Palode camp and children were empowered through different arenas of learning like First Aid activities, astronomical understanding, trekking and hiking, patrol level group activities, adventure sports, spiritual and social learning . Menon, principal & HOI of Al Khozama, in his welcome speech expressed his delight as the first Indian school to have a sea scouting unit in the Kingdom. The function was also attended by Shimi Sibi, principal girls wing, Hameed Ali Yahya, vice principal, Sajna Mylanchi, the headmistress, Bino Mathew, secretary B S&G, KSA, Betsie Nitto, primary section head, and the scout masters of the school. — SG
