DAMMAM — Al-Khozama and Al-Yasmin shared the Rolling Trophy, while New Al-Wurood finished first runner-up in the Badminton Championships conducted at Al-Khozama International School, Dammam, recently. The tournament was held for girls in three categories, Under-14, -16 and -19 at Euro Village Al-Khobar. Two associates of the Peevees Group of Schools — Al-Yasmin International School Riyadh and Al-Wurood International School, Jeddah — also took part in the event. Individual championship titles were bagged by: Jemmah D'souza (Al-Yasmin) Under-14, Sakeena Batool (Al-Khozama) Under-16 and Sumaja Nair (Al-Khozama) Under-19. Trophies and certificates were awarded to the top players. The Peevees Group of Schools synchronizes badminton to develop students' skills. Chief guest George Puthanmadhom, president of Expatriate Badminton Association of Saudi Arabia, inaugurated the tournament. Gopinath Menon welcomed the guests and the contingent. Former Indian football team goalkeeper Victor Manjila, Razi Sheikh Pareeth, Bino Mathew, Roshan, Jayaprakash Nair and Sajna Mayilanchi were at hand to encourage the players. Surendran Nair provided technical support for the event, while Jalaja Nair and Theresanathan officiated the games. Event Coordinator Ms. Betsie Nitto (Al-Khozama) delivered the vote of thanks. A grand new multipurpose indoor sports complex at Al-Khozama International School, Dammam, was also inaugurated by Yousaf Al-Rogaithi, supervisor, Ministry of Education, Eastern Province, in the presence of Peevees Group general manager A.M. Ashraf. The complex boasts a magnificent indoor football court, two badminton courts and an indoor cricket net. — SG
