Miley dominant as Red Sox beat Angels

NEW YORK — Wade Miley pitched eight dominant innings and Mike Napoli continued his strong week with another home run and four RBIs to lead the Boston Red Sox to a 6-1 win over the Los Angeles Angels Sunday.

Miley (4-4) retired the first 14 batters he saw and allowed just one run on four hits with two strikeouts and one walk. Koji Uehara then pitched a perfect ninth.

Napoli's two-run homer in the second was his eighth of the season and fourth in his last three games.

He added a two-run double in the eighth and shortstop Xander Bogaerts collected four hits for Boston.

Athletics 7, Rays 2: Oakland won back-to-back games for the first time since April 14, topping Tampa Bay 7-2, but right-hander Sonny Gray caused some concern when he suffered an ankle injury.

Twins 8, White Sox 1: Brian Dozier went 2-for-5 with two home runs and four RBIs to lead Minnesota over Chicago 8-1.

Astros 10, Tigers 8: Jason Castro's two-run single in the seventh brought in the go-ahead runs as Houston rallied from a four-run deficit to beat Detroit 10-8.

Blue Jays 8, Mariners 2: Ryan Goins and Edwin Encarnacion both hit two-run homers in the fifth inning as Toronto beat Seattle 8-2.

Rangers 5, Yankees 2: Yovani Gallardo pitched six effective innings and Prince Fielder drove in two more runs as the Texas Rangers completed their first three-game sweep at Yankee Stadium in more than 12 years with a 5-2 victory over the New York Yankees.

National League

Padres 11, Dodgers 3: Justin Upton drove in the game's first six runs while James Shields took a shutout into the seventh inning to lead the San Diego Padres to a 11-3 rout of the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Upton went 2-for-4 with a grand slam and a two-run double to match his career best in RBIs for one game.

Center fielder Will Venable collected four hits and second baseman Cory Spangenberg added three to lead a 20-hit attack for the Padres.

Braves 2, Brewers 1: Right-hander Mike Foltynewicz allowed just three hits over 7-2/3 innings as Atlanta beat Milwaukee 2-1.

Diamondbacks 4, Cubs 3: Arizona first baseman Paul Goldschmidt homered and drove in three runs while shortstop Nick Ahmed extended his hitting streak to nine games in the Diamondbacks' 4-3 victory over the Chicago Cubs.

Pirates 9, Mets 1: Left-hander Francisco Liriano struck out a season-high 12 batters while Starling Marte and Andrew McCutchen both hit home runs as Pittsburgh completed a 9-1 victory over New York.

Nationals 4, Phillies 1: Gio Gonzalez worked into the seventh inning and help Washington top Philadelphia 4-1.

Rockies 11, Giants 2: Nolan Arenado four hits and four RBIs while finishing a double shy of the cycle, and Chad Bettis took a shutout into the ninth inning as the Colorado Rockies walloped the San Francisco Giants 11-2.

Inter-League
Cardinals 6, Royals 1: Matt Carpenter belted a two-run homer and right-hander Michael Wacha threw seven strong innings as St. Louis downed Kansas City 6-1.

Carpenter, who entered the game with a .486 batting average at Kauffman Stadium, homered in the sixth with Kolten Wong aboard.

Marlins 5, Orioles 2: Martin Prado homered and drove in two runs while Marcell Ozuna also had two RBIs for Miami in a 5-2 win over Baltimore.
Indians 5, Reds 2: Trevor Bauer pitched into the eighth inning and Cleveland took advantage of three Cincinnati errors to complete a 5-2 win over the Reds. — Agencies
