Muhammad Mujahid Syed Saudi Gazette JEDDAH – In Urdu literature, a “Hamd” is a poetic piece in praise of God. The word occurs in the Holy Qur'an and in Arabic it means “praise”. “The concept of ‘hamd' is ingrained in all forms of Islamic worship and each pillar of Islam emphasizes its importance. As such, the poetic form should reflect a human being's humility and true love unto God,” said Sheikh Sahebzadah Abdul Basit while addressing a Hamdiya Mushairah here. Maulana Hifzur Rahman Seoharvi Academy organized the Mushairah at Majma Abdullah Nin Mas'ood Tahfizal Qur'an in Aziziyah District, Jeddah. Qari Abdul Basit, principal of the school, chaired the event. Abdussattar Khan of Urdu News, in his speech, referred to Surah Al-Rahman in the Holy Qur'an. He read out the first four verses of this chapter: The Most Merciful; Taught the Qur'an; Created man; (And) taught him eloquence). Khan said in these verses Almighty Allah emphasizes His attribute Al-Rahman (the Most Merciful), the importance of teaching His Holy Book, the place of human being and his relation with his Creator and the importance of eloquence and its proper use, without which human beings will not be very different from other animals. “A Hamd should consist of all these elements and qualities,” Khan said. Anwar Ali Qasimi conducted the first session. In the second session, Nasir Barni, himself a poet, was the master of event. Zamurrad Saifi, Mohsin Alvi, Irfan Barabankwi, Mahtab Qadr, Naim Bazidpuri, Mujahid Syed and Professor Jazb Aurangabadi recited their poems. The program began with the recitation of a few verses of the Holy Qur'an. Bahjat Ayyub Zinjani of Seoharvi Academy said his institution is open to all. He thanked the speakers, poets and the guests who attended the event.
