Mishal Al-Otaibi Saudi Gazette RIYADH — A security official was killed when unknown assailants fired at a patrol team here on Friday evening, the Saudi Press Agency reported. The spokesman of police in Riyadh region said that the team in charge of the security of installations came under fire from an unknown vehicle at around 7.30 p.m. Friday while they were patrolling in southern Riyadh. Security official Majed Al-Ghamdi was martyred in the attack. The security agencies launched a massive manhunt to nab the attackers, the spokesman said. Meanwhile, Customs officials at King Fahd Causeway in Dammam foiled attempts to smuggle RDX explosives and detonators into the Kingdom from Bahrain. Maj. Gen. Mansour Al-Turki, security spokesman at the Ministry of Interior, said that the smugglers were arrested with explosives and an investigation is underway in cooperation with the Bahraini security agencies. The Customs officials seized RDX and detonators from a Ford model car at about 8.15 a.m. Friday. They were found in 14 plastic bags hidden inside the car. Eleven bags were containing 30.87 kilograms of doughy material packed with tin coating. It was revealed in forensic tests that the material was highly flammable RDX explosive. There were also 50 blasting caps in two other bags and the remaining bag contained detonator with a length of six meters, the spokesman said.
