JEDDAH — A 25-year-old pregnant woman has ended up brain dead after having a Cesarean in a private hospital south of Jeddah, Al-Watan newspaper reported. Yaseen Al-Sharif, the victim's husband, has said that his wife was the victim of negligence, a claim that has been supported by Jeddah Health Affairs. He said his wife's waters broke on Sunday and he rushed her to the maternity ward. “My wife was in labor for three hours and the doctor said they have to perform a Cesarean on her. After the operation, my wife had chest pain and was in a terrible condition. “She was screaming saying she had vaginal pains and no doctor would respond to my pleas for help.” He added that he found a nurse who gave her some medicine and his wife's condition immediately worsened. “Red spots started showing on her skin and it was only seconds before she went into a coma. “After half an hour, the doctors came and put her in intensive care and connected her to a ventilator. “I demand the minister of health look into my wife's case and the negligence she had to deal with in her weakest moments.” Jeddah Health Affairs responded to Al-Sharif and sent a team of four doctors who investigated the case and looked into the patient's files. “They told me my wife is brain dead because she did not get enough oxygen to her brain. That is not what the report the hospital issued for me said. “They lied in their report and I want the people responsible to be punished and penalized for what they did to my wife.” Jeddah Health Affairs official spokesman Abdulrahman Al-Sahafi said the directorate is still investigating. “We have banned anyone and everyone involved in the case from traveling outside the city. “Our investigations have so far revealed that there was definitely a medical error committed. The case will be forwarded to the legislative authority.”
