The Health Affairs Department in Taif is investigating Misan General Hospital following accusations that hospital negligence left a newborn baby brain-damaged and in a coma. Hilal Al-Shuleiwi admitted his pregnant wife to the hospital last August, and despite a difficult birth, he said she was only attended to by one midwife. Al-Shuleiwi further claims that the doctor did not see his wife for several hours and refused to give his wife medication to facilitate labor. He now believes that the baby suffered from a lack of oxygen when he was born, and that the midwife was not qualified to deal with the case. Sa'eed Al-Zahrani, director of Public Relations and Information at the Department of Health Affairs in Taif, said some members of hospital staff were being investigated. – Okaz/SG __
