JEDDAH — Eleven people were injured when a ceiling collapsed on them while trying to escape a fire at a house in south Jeddah. Makkah Civil Defense received a report of the blaze on the second floor of a traditional two-story property. Eight people suffered smoke inhalation and Civil Defense officers and Red Crescent paramedics entered the house to save them. The ceiling began to collapse and it fell on the eight victims, two Civil Defense officers and a paramedic. Two of the 11 victims were treated on the spot and nine were transported to hospital.
