DAMMAM — Saudi Customs officers have foiled an attempt to smuggle in about 3,000 live “ornamental” birds from Bahrain, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Thursday. “They were found hidden in three vehicles entering the Kingdom” via the King Fahd Causeway from the island nation, SPA said. It said the 2,794 birds were of various types, but did not say if any arrests were made. Saudi Arabia bans the import of all live birds, except hatching eggs and chicks for authorized projects.
