An official at the King Fahd Causeway to Bahrain has denied Internet rumors that a Saudi man had been arrested at Causeway for attempting to smuggle into the Kingdom a young woman of Russian nationality. Stories had gained credence that a Saudi man had hidden the girl, with whom he was purportedly in love, in his car after hundreds of Internet websites and forums carried the story along with photographs of a female assuming an awkward position inside the hollow of a vehicle's dashboard. An official said, “It didn't happen here.” Causeway customs officials also recently revealed that the border crossing topped the list in the number of seized items being smuggled into the Kingdom last year. Officials said that they had uncovered 1,298 cases of attempted smuggling, most of which involved liquor. Since the beginning of the current year, authorities at the bridge have confiscated more than 1,500 bottles of liquor, over 1,000 counterfeit items, 30 kilograms of pork, and other illegal products.
