RIYADH — Border Guards seized more than 2,000 kilograms of hashish last week from smugglers in various parts of the Kingdom. Guards spokesman Maj. Gen. Mohammad Al-Ghamdi said in the Eastern Province more than 1,000 kilograms was found in a vehicle after its owners tried to burn it to hide the evidence. The smugglers resisted arrest and one officer was shot but they were detained eventually. Al-Ghamdi added that in Makkah Province 288 kilograms of hashish was seized while at the Jazan and Asir borders 300 kilograms of the drug were seized along with weapons and the narcotic qat. All smugglers were arrested. Head of the Border Guards' naval forces Maj. Gen. Awad Al-Blewi called on citizens to cooperate with the guards and enforce national security.
