Mishal Al-Otaibi Saudi Gazette RIYADH — Border Guard patrols in Jazan foiled a number of smuggling operations and infiltration attempts during the Islamic month of Sha'aban (from June 10 to July 9). Border Guard spokesman for Jazan Brig. Gen. Abdullah Muhammad Bin Mahfooz said officers confiscated 38,429 rounds of ammunition, 110 firearms, 1,399 narcotic pills, 210,071 bundles of qat, 598 kilograms of hashish, 2,602 items of food, 16,909 kilograms of firecrackers, cash worth SR295,399 and 3,247 heads of various livestock. They also arrested 412 smugglers and 49,348 infiltrators, 80 percent of whom were supposed to be returning to their country taking advantage of the amnesty for illegals workers. Commander of the Border Guard in Jazan Maj. Gen. Abdulaziz Muhammad Al-Subhi said the seized items and arrests were due to the efforts of officers, who he said worked day and night to protect the nation's security. He said the Border Guard officers would lie in wait for all who attempt to smuggle banned items into the country.
