Mishal Al-Otaibi Saudi Gazette RIYADH — Border Guard patrols have foiled attempts to smuggle 2,063 kilograms of hashish and over 128,000 kilograms of qat in the space of two weeks this month. Brig. Gen. Muhammad Saad Al-Ghamdi, spokesman for the Border Guard, said land and sea patrols at all border areas arrested 349 smugglers and 10,760 infiltrators who tried to enter the Kingdom illegally between May 11 and May 24. Most of them were in the southern border areas. Al-Ghamdi said border security regulations would be applied to all smugglers and infiltrators. He said the electronic systems used by the Border Guard officers have contributed to reducing smuggling and infiltration, apart from the sacrifices these men have made to protect the security of the nation and its borders.
