RIYADH — Pakistan International School-English Section (PIS-ES) here recently witnessed the annual commendation ceremony held at the Chancery Hall of the Embassy of Pakistan. PIS-ES duly rewarded its high achievers of International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) and A-Level year 2012-13 with shields, trophies and certificates. Ambassador of Pakistan to Saudi Arabia Muhammad Naeem Khan was the chief guest, and Deputy Head of Mission and Link Officer for PISES Khayyam Akbar was the guest of honor. Also in attendance were acting school principal Muhammad Tanveer along with other guests and parents. Tanveer later enlightened the audience about the school's various educational and extra-curricular activities. He also shared the school's marvelous results in IGCSE and A Level with help of statistics, providing a comparative picture of results achieved over the years. He announced that in IGCSE Muhammad Raza Ali got distinction by securing the first position in the Kingdom in English as a second language. The acting principal further said that PISEANs were second to none in sports and athletics post wining the ISSL Athletics Championship, and by getting second and third positions in under 16 and under 19 categories in cricket tournaments. He thanked the efforts of Muhammad Tahir Sheikh, sports in-charge Sami Ahmad, and sports teacher Muhammad Asif who trained the students even without having a sports facility at the campus. The "Go Green" project under the care of Department of Chemistry and Sajida Emran and her team was also hailed by the audience. Tanveer thanked and appreciated the efforts of Dr Amer Qazi, Fasial Aziz, Sajida Emran, Ambreen Shams, Rukhsana Jamal, Farah, Muhammad Naeem Akhtar, Abdur Rouf and Saima Noreen and the all the members of administrative and supporting staff whose contributions made this ceremony successful. About 98 students were given away prizes in three stages. Among the highest achievers in IGCSE were Usma Zahid and Zainab Rouf with 9 A* and Mriam Jameel, Sara Suleman, Kinza Mahmood, Razan Aziz and Sohaib Aslam with 8 A*. Muhammad Raza Ali received a special shield and certificate on getting distinction. In AS, Usama bin Faisal and Inzemam Tahir got 4 As while Raeem Naveed, Haseeb Hassan, Rabia Manzoor and Warda Khizer Usmani managed to get 3 As. Faisal Javid and Syed Farzan were prominent achievers in A2 with 4 A* while Baseer Anwar , Hafsa Siddiqui, Hamza Hassan, Moaz Ahmad and Sabiha Ahmad Chohan got 3A*s. Student speakers Head Girl Warda Khizar Usmani and Head Boy Raeem Naveed shared their experiences during their studies at PISES. In their speeches, they thanked PISES for the quality education, teachers for their devotion and loyalty, and parents for their care and love that made all possible. The musical interludes in the form tableaus kept the audience spell bound and captivated. “Welcome to Parents,” “Tribute to School,” “Kalam-e-Iqbal,”“Tableau on National Song,” “Solo Song by Anus Raza,” and “Rhythm of Unity” presented the glimpses of stage activities of PISEANs. The audience duly appreciated the efforts of Saqib ur Rehman, Muhammad Naeem Akhtar, Rukhsana Jamal, Rifat Sukhera, Farah Deeba, Sajida Sharif, Ambreen Shams and Fozia Nafees, the masterminds behind the incredible students' performances. Ghulam Mujtaba, Noreen, Head Boy Muhammad Inzemam Tahir, and Rabia Manzoor hosted and gave color to the ceremony. The recitation of a few verses from Surah Rehman was done by Abdullah Amin,a student of Grade 8, followed by its English and Urdu translation by Razan Aziz and Muhammad Ibrahim respectively. — SG
