RIYADH – The Shoura Council on Tuesday rejected a proposal to amend article 9 of the foreign education bylaw that deals with buying of building or plots of land to build private schools for expatriates. The Shoura committee turned down the recommendation to allow embassies to own buildings for their schools, saying that the missions fall under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Dr. Fahaad Al-Hamad, assistant president of the Council, said that the council also discussed the draft agreement to recruit Filipino domestic workers. After deliberations by several members voicing pros and cons of the provisions of the agreement, the council decided to give the Shoura committee some more time to examine the observations of the members.
