Canadiens shoot down Ducks
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 07 - 03 - 2014

ANAHEIM — Defenseman Andrei Markov scored the winner in a shootout, lifting the Montreal Canadiens to a 4-3 victory over the Anaheim Ducks here Wednesday.
Markov's winner occurred in the sixth round after officials waved off what appeared to be a goal by Anaheim (43-14-6) right winger Kyle Palmieri.
Montreal (35-22-7) snapped the Ducks' three-game winning streak and also swept the season series between the two, recording a 4-1 win over the Ducks in October.
Canadiens goaltender Dustin Tokarski stopped 39 shots, while Anaheim netminder Jonas Hiller finished with 28 saves.
After falling behind 2-0 in the first, Anaheim scored three times in the second where the period ended in a 3-3 tie.
Max Pacioretty notched his 30th goal of the season for Montreal.
Flyers 6, Capitals 4
Claude Giroux and right winger Jakub Voracek both scored two goals to lead the Philadelphia Flyers to a victory over the Washington Capitals.
Adam Hall and Steve Downie also scored goals for Philadelphia (33-24-6), who have a two-point lead over the New York Rangers for fourth place in the Eastern Conference.
Alex Ovechkin and Brooks Laich and right wingers Joel Ward and Troy Brouwer scored for the Capitals.
Washington (29-24-10) are one point behind Columbus for the final playoff spot in the East but trail the Flyers by just four points.
Maple Leafs 3, Rangers 2 (OT)
Center Tyler Bozak scored his second goal of the game at 1:51 of overtime to give Toronto a 3-2 victory that consolidated third place in the Atlantic Division on 74 points.
The Maple Leafs (33-23-8) had started the game one point behind the Tampa Bay Lightning. The top three teams in the division qualify for the postseason. Goaltender Jonathan Bernier made 35 saves.
The Maple Leafs win overshadowed the Rangers' debut of Martin St. Louis, who was acquired from Tampa Bay just before Wednesday's trade deadline. St. Louis had three shots on goal but did not register a point.
Flames 4, Senators 1z
The Calgary Flames handed the Senators a huge blow to their playoff hopes with a victory over them.
Goaltender Joni Ortio, the 2009 draft choice who started the season in the ECHL but will be the starter until Kari Ramo returns from a knee injury, collected his first NHL victory with a 30-save performance in just his second game.
Ottawa (27-25-11) acquired scoring right winger Ales Hemsky before Wednesday's trade deadline, but he was unable to help them much in his debut.
Mike Cammalleri was one of four goal-scorers for the Flames (24-31-7), who took a 3-0 lead en route to victory. — Reuters
