JEDDAH – The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has shut down two food-processing units in Jeddah after its inspectors seized a large quantity of rotten goods from their premises. The ministry has initiated punitive measures against owners and operators of the two plants following inspection raids at several factories and warehouses in the city. From one of the plants, the inspectors seized 30 tons of corn that was unfit for human consumption. They seized 1,500 bags of corn, each weighing 20 kg, imported from Argentina and destroyed them. The factory produced various types of chips, popcorn and candies. The inspectors have also shut down another factory after seizing a big quantity of rotten goods, including 33 bags of various foodstuffs and 120 cartons of juice, which also did not have Arabic labels. — SG/SPA
