RIYADH — More than 70 news agencies and media outlets from around the world concluded their deliberations in Riyadh Wednesday with a host of recommendations to keep pace with modern developments. Saudi Arabia hosted the three-day Fourth News Agencies World Congress, under the theme «Reformation of a News Agency in the 21st Century,» at Ritz Carlton Hotel. Abdullah bin Fahd Al-Hussain, president of the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), directors of news agencies and experts in communication and information technology participated. More than 30 working papers were read over five sessions. Topics covered included new products and services, social media and other digital platforms, views of Arabic newscasters about news agencies, capitalizing on new opportunities and supporting future needs of newspapers. The participants were briefed on the work of social media and other digital platforms through different presentations made by representatives of institutions of MSN, Google and Yahoo. Some television executives expressed reservations about news items they receive from news agencies. They said news content should be objective and unbiased while delivery should be quick. Azertag News Agency of Azerbaijan agreed to host the fifth congress in Baku in 2016. — SG/SPA
