Chennai ensures semis spot
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 29 - 09 - 2013

RANCHI — Chennai Super Kings crushed Brisbane Heat by eight wickets in the Champions League Twenty20 (CLT20) 2013 and ensured their berth in the semifinals here Saturday.
Chennai has won three games on the trot and is looking unbeatable at this point.
The opening partnership of 75 between Michael Hussey (57 not out) and Murali Vijay (42) set the foundation for an easy run-chase.
After Vijay's fall for 42 Hussey played a measured knock and he was busy ticking the scorecard. Raina played a couple of lusty blows to bring the required run-rate below six runs per over.
Earlier, Chennai spinners put a stranglehold on Brisbane batsmen.
Brief scores: Brisbane Heat 137 for 7 in 20 overs (Ben Cutting 42*, Chris Hartley 35, Chris Lynn 29; Ravindra Jadeja 2 for 18) vs Chennai Super Kings 140 for 2 in 15.5 overs (Michael Hussey 57*, Murali Vijay 42; Daniel Christian 1 for 16) by 8 wickets.
Easy for Titans
In the first match of the day, Henry Davids slammed a quickfire 64 and Jacques Rudolph remained unbeaten on 49 to power Titans to a huge win by eight wickets against the Sunrisers Hyderabad in their Group B match.
Chasing a target of 146 runs to win, the Titans' openers made a mincemeat of the star-studded Sunrisers' bowling attack to achieve the target with 21 balls to spare.
Davids smashed four sixes and seven boundaries to score a rapid 64 off just 42 balls, while Rudolph played a cautious knock, garnering 49 runs from 42 balls with the help of three boundaries and two sixes.
The two batsmen added 112 runs to outgun the Sunrisers bowlers, and eventually shutting down all doors of comeback for the IPL side.
Earlier, Sunrisers Hyderabad found an unlikely hero with the bat in form of Dale Steyn, who clobbered 20 runs off the last over to lift his side to a respectable total of 145-7.
Steyn swatted two sixes and as many boundaries in the last over off Marchant de Lange to help his side add a crucial 21 runs, also including a single off a bye, when they were reeling at 124 for seven at the end of the 19th over of the game.
David Wiese led the Titans bowling attack to stage a remarkable comeback after Shikhar Dhawan and Parthiv Patel provided the Sunrisers Hyderabad a fine start.
Brief scores: Sunrisers Hyderabad 145 for 7 in 20 overs (Shikhar Dhawan 37, Parthiv Patel 26, Dale Steyn 27*; David Wiese 3 for 17) lost to Titans 147 for 2 in 16.3 overs (Henry Davids 64, Jacques Rudolph 49*; Dale Steyn 1 doe 23) by 8 wickets.
Mumbai tastes win
Mumbai Indians registered their first win as they beat Highveld Lions by seven wickets at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium at Jaipur Friday.
Brief scores: Highveld Lions 140 for 5 in 20 overs (Alviro Peterson 35, Dwaine Pretorius 31*; Pragyan Ojha 2 for 26) lost to Mumbai Indians 141 for 3 in 18.3 overs (Dwayne Smith 63*, Kieron Pollard 31* ). — Agencies
