LONDON — Controversial Pakistan leg-spinner Danish Kaneria failed in his appeal to overturn his lifetime ban from cricket Friday. Kaneria was banned last year for his role in a spot-fixing plot, but denied all involvement and immediately indicated his intention to contest the decision. The 32-year-old was found guilty of “cajoling and pressurizing” former Essex teammate Mervyn Westfield into accepting cash in return for trying to concede a set number of runs in an over during an English county Pro40 match in 2009. The Pakistan Cricket Board said in July that Kaneria would be suspended from playing in his home country until the outcome of the appeal was known. Westfield served two months of a four-month prison sentence last year after admitting spot-fixing and was banned from professional cricket for five years. Dhoni hands Chennai win Chennai Super Kings continued their domination at home with a five-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad in Chennai Thursday. M.S. Dhoni's unbeaten 67 saw Chennai home in yet another last over thriller. Chasing a competitive 160, Murali Vijay and Michael Hussey started positively for the host. Chennai made 58 in the power play with the openers still at the crease. Mishra first had Vijay (18) stumped and then had Hussey (45) caught behind. Dhoni was put down by Mishra when he was yet to open his account and he made the most of the opportunity. Needing 46 from 24 balls, Dhoni continued his domination of Dale Steyn with sixes and fours. Needing 15 from the final over, Dhoni blasted a six, and a boundary off Ashish Reddy to see his team home with 2 balls remaining. Earlier Hyderabad won the toss and chose to bat. Shikhar Dhawan (63*) was their star batsman. Some lusty blows by Reddy (36 not out) saw Hyderabad reach 159 for 6. Scores: Sunrisers Hyderabad 159 for 6 (Shikhar Dhawan 63*, Mohit Sharma 2-30) lost to Chennai Super Kings 160 for 5 (MS Dhoni 67*, Amit Mishra 3-26) by 5 wickets. — Agencies
