JEDDAH — Students of Jauhara International School (JIS) jubilantly celebrated the Kingdom's 83rd National Day in its premises Tuesday. The children, who came dressed in green and white, were delighted to find their school adorned in green and white-colored balloons, flags, ribbons and posters of King Abdullah. A banner displayed in front of the gate highlighted the significance of the National Day. Abeer Dehlawi, assistant to school principal of JIS, said: "Many children are born and brought up here but they don't know anything about this country. So we are trying to make them aware of the Kingdom's rich history and traditions." Shikha Vasant, vice principle, said: "We are celebrating this event as we did every year; we introduce the rich Saudi culture and heritage to the children in their classrooms, in addition to having a class party where they can enjoy traditional Saudi dishes." Parvin Juwale, academic coordinator, said: "We are trying our best to make our children, who are from different nationalities, learn more about the Kingdom through academics and extra curricular activities. It's our pleasure to educate them with fun." Short speeches and patriotic songs were also delivered and sung by students. Afaf Osama, a nine-year-old Egyptian studying in grade 3, spoke about the importance of the National Day. Fatma Hamed and Aliha Sajid of grade 4 enlightened other students about the history of Saudi Arabia. Ragad Yusuf, Ragad Amoudi, Leena Osman, and Maya Khadoor, students of grade 3, rendered a beautiful national song in Arabic. A short quiz was also conducted by Amina khatoon, winners of which were awarded with sweets and certificates. The event concluded with the students singing the Kingdom's national anthem with enthusiasm.
