Saeed Al-Khotani Saudi Gazette RIYADH — Arrangements are under way to transfer Rana — weighing 300 kg and one of the two siblings suffering from excessive obesity — for treatment in a specialized obesity treatment center in the United States. The Directorate General of Health Affairs in the Eastern Region revealed this on Friday. The decision to transfer Rana to the US was made by a specialized team that was brought expressly from abroad by Minister of Health Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah. “The transfer was decided by the treating specialized medical team that was brought from abroad specifically to oversee the situation of both obesity patients as part of their treatment process,” the directorate added. Majed, who weighed 350 kg and was waiting for treatment like his sister, died in Dammam Tuesday after a bout of severe pneumonia. “The transfer of Rana to US was delayed because she had insisted on her brother joining her. He was deemed not medically fit for transfer. Following his death, Rana accepted others to accompany her, so the transfer procedure took pace,” the directorate said. The move to treat her in US comes as part of a series of actions carried out since the order of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah to treat them at government's expense at King Fahd Medical City in Riyadh.
