King Abdullah, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, has ordered the treatment an obese boy from Jordan at the King Fahd National Guard Hospital in Riyadh. The treatment order came in response to the request made by a Jordanian father to treat the obesity of his 14-year-old son who is currently weighing 305kgs. Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabea, executive director of Health Affairs at the National Guard and President of King Saud University for Medical Sciences, said Muhammad Ahmad Al-Modi, the obese child, and his father arrived a few days ago in Riyadh. The boy has been admitted to the hospital. Dr. Al-Rabae said a medical committee including consultants from various medical specializations has started testing Muhammad to diagnose his condition. He said the medical team has examined Muhammad's digestive and respiratory systems and also requested lab tests for his hormones and genes. Dr. Al-Rabea said the initial medical report completed by the father shows that the boy's food intake is average, yet he can't avoid gaining large weight. He can't move without using a wheelchair, making him hostage to his home. Eventually, he has stopped going to school. Dr. Al-Rabea said the consulting committee is following the boy's cases in order to properly diagnose him. The hospital will provide free accommodation to his family nearby the hospital. The boy's father who expressed his profound thanks to King Abdullah for his kind gesture said no one in the family is suffering from obesity except Muhammad. The boy's case was diagnosed as rare in Jordan, the father said. - Okaz __
