JEDDAH — Indian expatriates from Gulbarga district of Karnataka organized an Iftar party at the residence of Mirza Azam Baig, President of the Gulbarga Charitable and Welfare Trust Jeddah and it was well represented. Members of the trust attended the Iftar party and praised the charitable activities of the trust, especially providing help to the less fortunate residents of Gulbarga. Baig explained the achievements of trust in the past six years and said the trust's activities covered education, health care and self-employment, as well as extending financial help to the poor, especially orphan girls to get married. General Secretary Salim Khalifa highlighted the moral responsibilites of members of the society and lauded acts of humanity while stressing that charity is an essential element of religious practice for the Muslims. He said kindness and well wishing is the essence of charity, as is generosity. We need to upgrade ourselves from me to we. Afsar Abu Talha, member of the trust, advised all attendees to take advantage of Ramadan by fasting and spending time in zikr and tilaawath. Treasurer Abdul Wahid informed about the distribution of Eid ration packages among underprivileged residents of Gulbarga before Eid in order to help them to celeberate Eid. He thanked donors for generously donating these packages. Joint Secretary Sajid Sheikh requested members to streghthen the trust by introducing new members, so that more needy persons could be helped. Mirza Layeeq Baig, Executive Member, described the GCWT as a non-political non-governmental organization and said it had been serving the cause of humanity. Anwar Miyan, prominent businessman and member of GCWT Gulbarga, and Amjad ali Ansari, who were here for Umrah, also attended the function and appreciated the efforts of GCWT members working in Saudi Arabia. Mohammed Yahya appreciated the involvement of the GCWT in social and educational causes for poor residents in their area.
