JEDDAH — The Consulate General of Malaysia organized an Open Bowling Tournament in conjunction with the Malaysian king's birthday which is celebrated on the first Saturday of June every year. The moderate yet exciting event was held at Jeddah Lanes here Thursday with more than 150 Malaysians, comprising Consulate staffs, professionals and their respective families residing in Jeddah participating. Around 55 men and women, including children under-13, participated in the tournament, which was held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event began with dua, singing of “Negaraku”, the national anthem of Malaysia, followed by special remarks by Consul General Mohammad Khalid Abbasi Abdul Razak. Consul General quoted the royal address of the king which reminded all Malaysians, regardless of race and belief, to support efforts by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to restore national understanding. He said strengthening national unity should not be regarded a task and responsibility of certain quarters only, but should be an agenda for all Malaysians including his fellow citizens in Jeddah. A cake cutting ceremony was held and all present were served with special breakfast of “Nasi Lemak”. The event concluded with distribution of prizes to all winners by the Consul General and spouse Aniza Khalid. Mohammad Khair, Rozana, Aisyah Sara (daughter of Consul General) and Irfan Affendi emerged champions in men's, women's, girls and boys sections, respectively. CG's spouse Aniza Khalid came 1st runner-up in the women's category. — SG
